Why You Should Switch To Organic Feminine Hygiene Products

Lets talk about periods.  They are not something gross or something that should be taboo to talk about.  They are natural and normal, so why not use natural, organic feminine products that won’t harm our body.  I recently switched to organic feminine hygiene products and I am NEVER going back.

Why You Should Switch To Organic Feminine Hygiene Products

When I got my period at the age of 13, I got advice from my mom and used the feminine hygiene products she used.  I continued using them throughout my life and never really questioned it.

It wasn’t until I found myself sick with a couple of auto immune diseases that I started to question more the things I was putting on and in my body.  I started switching over to organic and natural products everywhere I could.

Which led me to the switch from conventional feminine hygiene products to organic ones.  And let me tell you, once you switch you won’t look back!

Chemicals In Conventional Feminine Hygiene Products

Do you know what chemicals are in conventional tampons and pads?  According to Cora, there are lots!

Chlorine- Tampons usually go through bleaching.

Rayon- This is a fiber that comes from wood pulp, it can be toxic to your body.

Polypropylene- This is on the outside layer of tampons and ingredient in anti-freeze.

Glyphosate- This is a popular ingredient found in round up! Gross.

Your vagina is the most absorbent part of your body. This means all of these chemicals you are putting into your body are being absorbed rapidly.  Reading that list of chemicals was enough for me to get rid of my conventional feminine hygienic products.

When you use conventional tampons, you also have a risk of getting TSS, or Toxic Shock Syndrome.  This is when you get a bacterial infection from your tampon.  There have been no reported cases of anyone using organic tampons getting TSS.  That gives us one more reason to switch!

Organic tampons and pads are made with organic cotton.  This means the cotton that is grown for these tampons are not sprayed with chemicals while growing and don’t have any of those nasty chemicals I listed above in them.

Lighter Periods and Less Cramping

This was the main reason I switched to organic tampons.  A friend had told me that when they switched to organic feminine products their cramps went away.  I have severe cramps and heavy bleeding normally.  Once I switched over to organic tampons, my bleeding lightened up and my cramps were almost gone.  It blew my mind.

This could be because when you use conventional tampons or pads, your body is absorbing all these foreign chemicals and it disrupts your reproductive system.  When you use organic tampons or pads, no gross chemicals are being absorbed.

If you have heavy bleeding or bad cramps during your period, try switching and see how much better you feel!

Organic Feminine Hygiene Products Options

So now that you have read why you should switch to organic feminine hygiene products, let me tell you my favorite brands.

There are 2 ways you can go when switching.  You can switch to natural feminine products that are washable and reusable.  Or you can switch organic feminine products that are disposable.

Disposable Organic Feminine Hygiene Products

This is the brand I currently use and love.  They are very affordable and top rated.  Cora tampons are leak free and made without any toxins.

You can find Cora products on Amazon or at Target.  I like to order my Cora Products from Target because they are cheaper there and if you have a Target Red Card (it can be the Target Red Debit Card as well) you get free 2 day shipping all the time!  I have them sent right to my house!

Seventh Generation

Seventh Generation is a well known brand for organic products.  They have organic tampons and pads that are also affordable, toxin free, and leak proof!

Washable and Reusable Feminine Products

Menstrual Cup

A menstrual cup is a silicone cup that collects your flow for up to 12 hours.  They are reusable and washable.  This option would save you some money and produce less waste for the environment.  Here are a couple top rated brands below.

Cloth Pads

Cloth pads are a little bit more work, but are better for you and will save you money as well.  Most of them come with a small wet bag, making them easy to use at home or out and about.

Absorbent Period Panties

Absorbent underwear, you don’t have to wear any tampons or pads with these.  They are washable and reusable.  How cool is that?

After reading about why you should switch to organic feminine hygiene products, what do you think?  Are you going to make the switch?
