Protein Smoothie For Breakfast

I like to start my families day off with something delicious but also great for them.  Making smoothies is my favorite way to do this because you can add healthy things and it still tastes like a treat.

Adding a little healthy protein to the morning smoothies helps to keep everyone full and happy.  I don’t think we get as much protein as we should without our daily smoothies.  Plus smoothies are just so good.

A delicious protein smoothie alongside my Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Energy Balls is like breakfast heaven. 🙂

Kid Friendly Smoothies Tips

Smoothies are so versatile, you can throw in whatever you like.  I make all different types of smoothies, I use my Lactation Smoothie Recipes all the time, just remove the lactation boosting ingredient.

Using a high powered blender helps make sure everything is blended small enough for picky eaters.  Before I had my Ninja Blender my son would pick out the spinach pieces and not want to drink the smoothies after he found them.  Investing in a high powered blender is worth it if you use it on a regular basis.

Ingredients For Smoothies

Use ingredients your family loves.  Let the kids help decide what to put in their smoothies.

Fruit

Our favorite smoothie fruit is strawberries, bananas, kiwi, pineapple, blueberries, mangoes, peaches, and raspberries.

Buy frozen fruit to save money and time.  The fruit won’t go bad quick this way and you can toss it right into the blender.

Veggies

Certain veggies blend up well in smoothies.  We like to use spinach, baby kale, cucumbers, zucchini and beets.  You can use these frozen as well.  When my veggies are going to go bad soon, and I have no use for them, I put them into the freezer for a smoothie.

You can also leave veggies out and just eat fruit smoothies!  Do what works for you.

Almond Milk

Using the Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk helps make the smoothie creamy and delicious.  You can use any milk you prefer or water.

Natural Sweetener

Sometimes the fruit might not be very ripe or you add some veggies and don’t want it to have that veggie taste.  Adding a little honey helps with this.

Sometimes I rotate different smoothie protein additions throughout the week, you can use a couple a day even.  I don’t like using whey protein powder because it hurts our tummies and doesn’t taste good.

We have used all of these protein smoothie add ins and love them all.

Organic Superfood Blend – 6g vegan protein per serving

This superfood blend is loaded with vitamins E, A, B and other nutrients.  It is vegan, dairy free, soy free and gluten free.

We add this one into our smoothies daily and it tastes great.  We have even added it into our pancakes before!  This one is definitely our favorite  Yum.

Collagen Powder – 20 g protein per serving

This is another smoothie protein add in that we use almost daily.  The flavor is not noticeable in smoothies and collagen protein is great for the gut.

I also like to add it to my coffee on days when I can’t have a smoothie, can’t even tell it’s in there.  If you use a drink frother you can mix it into any liquid fully, it’s great.

Chia Seeds – 4.4g  vegan protein per 2T

Chia seeds are an amazing superfood.  They have high protein with 9 essential amino acids, tons of fiber, antioxidants and omega 3’s too.  You can soak them in a 1:3 seeds:water ratio for 5-10 minutes.  Add them to the blender after they have soaked.

You do not have to soak them before using but they definitely get stuck in your teeth when they are dry.  You can soak them over night for convenience.  My kids do not like them unsoaked sticking in their teeth.

Hemp Hearts – 10 g vegan protein per serving

Hemp hearts are delicious and nutty.  They have iron, folate, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, b12 and more.  You can add them into the smoothie or sprinkle them on the top.  You can also add them to yogurt bowls or salads.

Flax Seeds – 3 g protein per 2T

We use flax seeds daily, they add extra protein but also keep things moving if you know what I mean. 😉  They have 3 g of fiber per 2T and are high in omega 3s.

Almond Butter – 6 g protein per 2T

Justin’s Honey Almond Butter is so delicious and made with clean ingredients.   Thrown some almond butter into a blender with a banana and a little almond milk to make a dessert smoothie.  Freeze the banana and call them milkshakes, kids love them!
