Preschool Name Activity -Pumpkin
My youngest is in Preschool this year, he is 4. We have been learning a letter each week. This week, we are on letter P, learning all about pumpkins! Just in time for fall! Learning names is so important in preschool so I came up with this Pumpkin Preschool Activity to help your child learn their name.

Preschool Name Learning
Children learning their name is very important in preschool and leads to other literacy learning. Children learn how to recognize their name first. They might not know how to spell it yet or write it, but once they learn recognition of their name they will be able to point it out. You can help them with this by putting their name everywhere you can.
Next, they learn how to spell their name. There are many different ways to practice this. I love to include fun hands on activities for this part of name learning. If your child is in this stage of learning their name then my pumpkin activity is perfect for you! Write your child’s name for them and they will be able to put it back together.
The last step is writing their name out. You should give your child lots of opportunities to do this as well. Write their name on paper, in shaving cream on the table, on the window with dry erase markers, or on this pumpkin activity. If your child knows how to write their name already, you can still use this fun activity. Just let them write their name out on their own.
Pumpkin Preschool Name Activity
This preschool name activity is great because it helps your child learn their name, but they also get to practice their cutting.
First print out this pumpkin printable.
You are going to draw black lines onto the pumpkin. Make enough spaces for your child’s name. Your child will use these lines for cutting guides if they are old enough to cut this out.
Then, write your child’s name on it, like the picture below. If your child is old enough to write their own name you can write the lines for them and let them fill their name into the spaces.
Next have your child cut out the pumpkin and across all the lines.
Once they are done, mix up the pieces, then your child can glue it to a piece on construction paper in the correct order.
All finished!
When you are all finished with your preschool activity there are a few different things you can do. You can hang it up or keep it out to have your child trace it over and over.
Another fun idea is to make it into a reusable game. You can laminate this instead of gluing it to construction paper. That way your child can put their name together over and over like a game. Practice makes perfect!
This preschool name activity is a great combination of fun and learning. Feels like arts and crafts but helps them learn their name along the way. 🙂
