Air Fryer Breaded Cod- Oven Recipe Included

Cod is a delicious white fish that is easily available and super versatile.  There are so many different ways to make cod, but one of my favorite ways is breaded and crispy in the Air Fryer.   You can make this breaded cod recipe in the oven as well.

Easy Air Fryer Cod

This breaded cod recipe only takes about 5 minutes to prep and 12 minutes to cook! How easy is that?

Although you can make this crispy cod in the air fryer or the oven, I think it’s crispier in the air fryer and prefer that method.  If you don’t have an air fryer, you can read about my favorite air fryer (it’s on sale!) here.

Making delicious breaded cod only requires a couple steps and just a few ingredients.

BREADED COD INGREDIENTS

  • 3 (4 oz) Cod Fillets- You can use fresh or frozen.  If you use frozen, thaw them out first.
  • 1/2 c Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1 T Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb Seasoning– This is one of my favorite seasoning blends because it has SO MUCH flavor but does not add salt to your dish.
  • 1/4 c Grated Parmesan Cheese

I always have Mrs. Dash, panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese stocked in my pantry.  Cooking is much easier and faster if you have a well stocked pantry.

 

How To Bread The Cod

Breading the cod is super easy!  All you need is a beaten egg, panko breadcrumbs, parm and your seasoning.  Let me tell you the steps.

  1. Dry your cod fillets. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. To set up your breading station- you will have 2 separate bowls or dishes.  One will have the beaten egg and the other will have panko, parm, and Mrs. Dash seasoning.
  3. Dip your cod fillet into the egg on both sides, then into the panko mixture.  Make sure everything is coated, you can use your hand to help get it all covered in panko.

That’s it!  Breading fish or chicken is really easy and you can change up the seasonings or types of breadcrumbs you use for different flavors.

 

Air Fryer Cod

Making these breaded cod fillets in the air fryer makes them even crispier and better than the oven.  Once your fish is breaded all you have to do is spray them with a little cooking spray and put them into the air fryer.  My whole family loves this Air Fryer Cod recipe.

How To Make Air Fryer Cod

Air Fryer Temperature- 380° F

Place the breaded cod into the air fryer, all 3 fillets fit in mine but if you have a smaller air fryer you might have to do batches.

Cook at 380° for 6 minutes.

Flip the fish.  Be careful flipping, you don’t want to rip the breading off.

Cook for an additional 6 minutes or until the outside is nice and crispy and the inside is cooked to at least 145°F.

Every Air Fryer is different so you might have to add or remove a few minutes.  Play around with it and see what works for your air fryer.

 

How to Make Baked Breaded Cod

If you don’t have an air fryer or you just prefer the oven, you can bake your breaded cod.

It takes a few minutes longer to get it nice and crispy but it is delicious as well cooked this way.

Preheat your oven to 375° F.

Place your cod onto a baking sheet with a wire rack, the wire rack helps the air circulate around the fish helping it get nice and crispy.

Bake for 10 minutes.

Flip the fish and bake for another 5-6 minutes on the second side.

Broil on high for 1-2 minutes until fish reaches desired crispiness.

How To Serve Air Fryer Cod

I like to serve mine with lemon slices to squeeze over the top, giving it a bright flavor.

My kids love it with a sauce to dip it in of course, just like fish sticks.

Fish Stick Sauce- Equal parts mayo and ketchup and a little pickle juice.

Rice or vegetables are delicious served along side.  Or you could even eat this crispy breaded cod as a fish sandwich on a bun. Yum!

Crispy Breaded Cod- Air Fryer and Oven Recipes

This crispy breaded cod recipe is so easy to make and always a hit with the whole family.  You can make this breaded cod recipe in the air fryer or in the oven. It's crispy, flaky and delicious.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
Total Time 17 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 (4oz) Cod Fillets
  • 1/2 c Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1 T Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb Seasoning
  • 1/4 c Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Dry your cod fillets. Salt and pepper them.
  2. BREADING: -Get 2 dishes- in one dish place the beaten egg, in the other mix together panko, Parmesan cheese and garlic and herb seasoning.
    -Dip the cod into the egg mixture on both sides, then into the panko mixture coating the fillet fully.
  3. AIR FRYER COOKING: -Place cod into the air fryer and cook for 6 minutes at 380° F.
    -Flip the fish and cook an additional 6 minutes or until crispy and the internal temp reaches 145° F.
  4. OVEN COOKING: -Preheat the oven to 375° F
    -Place cod onto a baking sheet with a wire rack.
    -Bake for 10 minutes.
    -Flip the fish and cook and additional 5-6 minutes.
    -Broil on high 1-2 minutes or until desired crispiness.
  5. ENJOY!

Notes

Serve with lemon on the side for a bright delicious flavor.
