Instant Pot Chicken Breast
For this Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken I decided to use chicken breast because it’s leaner but also, I really love chicken breast. You could use dark meat if your prefer, but trust me with the delicious homemade sauce we make it will be so flavorful!
Tip For Cooking Juicy Chicken Breast in the Instant Pot
Brown with Saute setting first.
When cooking chicken in a pressure cooker, like the Instant Pot, it is important to brown the chicken first to seal in all the juices and give it some color. On most Electric Instant Pots there is a ‘Saute’ setting, use this setting for a couple minutes with a little bit of olive oil to brown the chicken.
Tip for Quick Cooking Chicken in the Instant Pot
If you plan on saucing your chicken or cutting it up after it is done cooking for a recipe, you can cut it up before cooking it and it saves so much time cooking. For this Honey Garlic Chicken recipe I like to cut the chicken breast into about 1 inch chunks.
Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken
My husband got me an 8 qt Duo Nova Instant Pot for Christmas. I was so excited, I tried it out the next day making this delicious Honey Garlic Chicken breast. It turned out so delicious I had to share it with you.
It’s simple, quick and the chicken turns out so tender and juicy. Next, I think I’m going to try making my Easy Taco Soup with Chicken or maybe Instant Pot Chicken Marsala.
For this recipe you will make your own sauce because we’re fancy but also, I like to control what I am putting into my sauce. This Instant Pot chicken recipe only takes a few ingredients and tastes super flavorful.
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 lbs of chicken breast, diced into 1 inch chunks
- 3 T cornstarch
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 T olive oil
- salt and pepper
For the sauce
- 3 T honey
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/3 c low sodium soy sauce or liquid aminos
- 2 T brown sugar
- 2 T ketchup
- 2 green onions, diced, save a few of the green tops for garnish
Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
In a mixing bowl combine honey, garlic powder, low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup and diced green onions. Whisk together until fully combined. Save some of the green onion to top the dish at the end. Set the sauce to the side for later.
Then, place your chicken breast chunks in a mixing bowl and season with salt and pepper. Coat them with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, use your hands to mix them around so they are coated.
How To Make Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken
Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to your Instant Pot, turn on saute mode and brown your chicken for 3 minutes. Stir it around while cooking to get all the sides brown. This helps keep the chicken nice and juicy.
After you have browned the chicken, add the chicken broth and use a wooden spoon to scrape up the yummy bits off the bottom of the Instant Pot. DO NOT USE A METAL SPOON, you will scratch the bottom.
Add the yummy sauce you made earlier.
Cover with your Instant Pot lid, make sure it is secure according to your manufacturers directions.
Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes.
Let it naturally release for 12 minutes.
While your Instant Pot is naturally releasing, mix together 1 T of cornstarch and a little water until the clumps are out. Set aside.
When your Honey Garlic Chicken is done, let out any steam that is left over and open the Instant Pot.
Mix in the cornstarch mixture and turn on sauté mode for 5 minutes. Stir with your wooden spoon the whole time. This part is what gets the sauce nice and thick.
Honey Garlic Chicken Stove Top Directions
Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to skillet over medium heat.
Add chicken coated with cornstarch to the skillet. Brown the chicken for 3-4 minutes, stirring it around.
Now that the chicken has browned, add your chicken broth and scrape up the bits on the bottom of the pan.
Next, add your sauce you made earlier.
Cover and cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Mix together 1 T corn starch with a little bit of water until the clumps are out.
Take off the lid, add the cornstarch mixture and cook an additional 2-3 minutes until sauce has thickened.
Now serve this up over some Instant Pot Sticky Rice, cauliflower rice, or even mashed potatoes would be delicious.
Top with leftover green onions.
ENJOY!
