Why is Self Love Important?

Self love is the most important thing you can learn in your life, in my opinion, which is why I wanted to make these Self love affirmations.  You have to learn to be comfortable with yourself to be truly happy.  Lacking self love will cause all sorts of problems in your life. What you think about yourself mirrors out into your world.  So when you find self love, that love comes back.

I know this from first hand experience, it took me 28 years to finally love myself and some days I still struggle.  On those days, I use my affirmations of self love and other self love tools to get rid of the negativity.

There could be physical or emotional reasons you don’t love yourself.  Ask these questions below to see if you need to start your self love journey.

Ask yourself these questions

Have you avoided going somewhere because you didn’t like the way you looked?

Have you been hot in the summer because you don’t want to wear shorts or a tank top?

Have you ever found an outfit so cute but you think you can’t wear it because of your body?

Have you ever avoided a class, friendship or job because you didn’t think you were good enough?

Have you went somewhere and not enjoyed yourself because you could not stop thinking about how you looked or how you were less than others around you?

Have you looked in the mirror and talked negatively to yourself or had negative thoughts about yourself throughout the day?

Have you avoided pictures because you don’t like the way you look?

Have you avoided things in life because you feel unworthy?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, you need these daily self love affirmations and you need to start your journey to self love.

Think about all these questions above.  You have let negative self thoughts stop you from enjoying your life to it’s fullest potential. Refuse to do this anymore!  Tell those negative self thoughts to shut up because you are worthy of self love and happiness. It’s a journey, it doesn’t happen overnight.  Remember that.

How To Practice Daily Self Love Affirmations

Affirmations said with confidence daily can change your mind to believe the things that you are saying. Over time affirmations of self love really work.

There are positive and negative affirmations, be cautious what you say to yourself on a daily basis.  If you are telling yourself how worthless and ugly you are everyday, you will start to believe that, even if it isn’t true.

If you tell yourself every single day that you are beautiful, strong and worthy, you will eventually start to believe that.  The negative self talk has to stop first!  This doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t feel negative emotions, we all do, just don’t stay there.  Go through the emotion and let it go.

These affirmations of self love will only work if you put the work in!  This sort of thing might sound silly at first, but saying your self love affirmations every day will help change the way your brain is thinking.

Here is how to make your daily self worth affirmations work

Step 1

Make a list of all the negative things you have thought about yourself.  Write down anything and everything that has been stuck in your mind for so long.  This can be thoughts from yourself, or thoughts from others.

Maybe a teacher or parent said something hurtful to you that you have held onto all these years, write that down too.  Identifying the negative thoughts towards yourself helps you pick the right affirmations.

Maybe you wanna burn this later is a ceremony!

Step 2

Find self love affirmations that go along with what you have written down.  You can also create your own self love affirmations.  If you are making your own, you can use a thesaurus to find powerful words to use.

Step 3

Repeat your self love affirmations for 5 minutes, 3 times a day.  Do this with the most confidence you possibly can.  I like to say them to myself into a mirror.  It might feel fake at first because you don’t believe what you are saying, but trust me if you keep it up, you eventually will.

If you feel like you cannot say these positive affirmations for that long or in a mirror, start small.  Small steps add up and eventually you will be able to say them longer and longer.

You can also write affirmations down in a notebook or a self love journal over and over throughout the week.

Step 4

Breathe.  While you are repeating your affirmations, breathe in slowly, hold and then release.  This mindfulness helps make the affirmations one with your body.

Step 5

Get some of your close friends or family to say some of your self esteem affirmations to you.  Your close friends and family already love you and it feels good to hear positive things from others.

Last little tip, write some self love affirmations on post it notes or print out the graphics I have made for you and put them around your house.  You might walk into the bathroom, see the affirmation on the mirror and then you can repeat it back to yourself.  Surrounding yourself with positive thoughts is key.

Now that you know how to practice daily self love affirmations, you are ready for them!

  • Unconditional love for yourself is vital… yet we dont learn how to do this anywhere. This needs to be more normalized. Instead, self hated and low self esteem is the norm especially among women. Learning what it meant to love myself unconditionally felt like a miracle, it changes your life, because you no longer live from a place of “not enough”. Everything you do becomes filled with love, appreciation and deep gratitude. You no longer feel threatened or victimized by others. All these insignificant things fall away. But through the stress of relationships, I once again feel not enough for people. Balancing self love with wanting to be there for others is a serious challenge. Once you change yourself for someone else, you are not choosing self love. You are betraying yourself to please another person. And in doing so, you unconsciously tell yourself that their opinion matters more than even your own. But those who love you won’t ask you to change. And that includes yourself, dont ask yourself to change for someone else. Stay true to you, because you are worthy just as you are! Its easy to lose but so hard to gain back.
